Updates
Even death stars have an exhaust vent.
Google Drive Library setup now handles abandoned empty controls safely and reports precise Freed Desktop sync failures
Fixes
- Lets the authenticated PWA ignore a bounded set of exact empty Google Drive control placeholders left by interrupted setup while still failing closed on conflicting published controls
- Preserves the exact native Google Drive failure stage in Freed Desktop instead of replacing it with a generic connection failed error
- Keeps Google Drive control discovery bounded and avoids downloading known empty provisioning placeholders
Follow-ups
- Freed moves immutable Library objects through Google Drive and never uploads SQLite, WAL, or SHM files
Builds:v26.8.1800
PRs:#1556
Freed now runs its Library on bounded SQLite storage across Freed Desktop and the PWA, with repaired Google Drive sync and substantially lower memory demand
Features
- Moves Freed Desktop and the PWA to the SQLite-first Library Core and removes the legacy Automerge runtime
- Publishes immutable SQLite Library checkpoints through Google Drive so the PWA can import the synchronized Library
- Adds responsive settings controls and tappable map zoom controls across supported screen sizes
Fixes
- Prevents Google Drive publication from remaining stuck behind an abandoned native request and reports the exact failed sync stage
- Repairs PWA Google Drive authentication, disconnect, token refresh, and synchronized state reporting
- Eliminates full-corpus SQLite UI scans and bounds Friends and map rendering memory
- Stabilizes map panels, markers, provider scheduling, wake recovery, and hidden-window sync
- Lets the PWA import immutable Google Drive Library checkpoints when browsers do not expose response ETags
Follow-ups
- Google Drive sync remains intentionally local-first: SQLite files stay on each device while immutable Library objects move through the user's Drive
Ships the native SQLite Library across Freed Desktop and bounded IndexedDB storage in the PWA, with repaired Google Drive synchronization on both clients
Features
- Moves Freed Desktop's library from the legacy Automerge engine to native SQLite and keeps the complete corpus out of renderer memory
- Moves the PWA to bounded IndexedDB storage with immutable Google Drive checkpoints, operation segments, and intent synchronization
- Adds bounded native queries for feeds, Friends, Saved, Map, search, settings, counts, and analytics
Fixes
- Makes Library mutations update exact changed rows instead of repeatedly reloading the complete library
- Repairs Google Drive authentication and automatic cloud-sync startup on Freed Desktop
- Uploads browser Blob request bodies correctly through the native Google Drive bridge
- Restores authenticated Google Drive synchronization in the PWA by binding browser requests correctly
- Refreshes and retries Google Drive synchronization once when Drive unexpectedly rejects an expired PWA access token
- Returns from the PWA OAuth callback reliably after a successful connection
- Keeps automatic social sync durable across sleep, hidden windows, locks, and renderer restarts
Follow-ups
- Continue hardening cross-device immutable synchronization and recovery
- Reduce the remaining control-plane test runtime outside the product release path
- Verify multi-day Facebook and Instagram cadence with the hourly automation custodian
- Compare the installed build against matched historical runtime windows

Friends Galaxy, a focused YouTube study feed, and calmer reading from Medium and Substack
Features
- Explore Friends as a theme-aware, GPU-accelerated galaxy with provider constellations, stable labels, and mouse, trackpad, touch, and keyboard navigation.
- Connect YouTube through your signed-in session to capture followed channels and recent long-form subscriptions, keep Shorts out of the study feed, watch in Focus Mode, or hand selected videos to a private YouTube playlist for Premium downloads.
- Add Medium and Substack as beta sources for signed-in essays, subscriptions, visible relationships, and activity.
Fixes
- Sidebar controls are vertically centered with full-height hit areas, and expand or collapse no longer rebounds as synchronized state arrives.
- Zoom, density, sidebar state and width, Friends layout, feed views, sorting, filters, and reader layout now stay local to each device instead of syncing through Automerge.
- Factory reset fences active capture work, removes selected local sessions and sync state, and stops safely when cleanup fails.
- Freed Desktop warns when a second desktop client may duplicate RSS and authenticated provider requests.
- YouTube sign-in, capture, progress, cancellation, and hidden session cleanup are bounded and recover safely.
- Automerge worker startup retries once after a clean reset, and unchanged cloud documents no longer echo through idle reuploads.
- Facebook groups you have left stay removed, and Medium and Substack beta labels remain readable through 150% zoom.
- Private security reports redact diagnostics and harden fetched content before submission.
Follow-ups
- Medium and Substack remain beta while capture coverage broadens.
- RSS subscriptions and successful refresh timestamps sync. Retry state and reader cache stay local, and the PWA does not poll feeds.
- Multiple desktop clients are warned about duplicate request surface, but requests are not centrally deduplicated yet.
- Factory reset preserves safety ledgers, media files, AI models, legal acceptance, and install identity.
- Freed does not download or cache YouTube video or audio. Offline downloads remain in YouTube Premium through the private playlist.
Map controls, clipboard capture, and stronger sync diagnostics
Features
- Map now has a lower-left time range slider with all-time, today, and last-week shortcuts.
- Freed Desktop adds a clipboard save shortcut and moves activity monitoring into the top toolbar.
- Installed sync soaks now produce structured runtime-health evidence with loop counters and window recovery records.
Fixes
- Provider scrape recovery now records memory pressure, zero-post failures, and safe local next actions without adding provider traffic.
- Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X diagnostics now separate local stalls from provider failures more clearly.
- Map presets, graph pins, and content-detail saves now wait for durable state before reloads.
- Production validation now catches real performance regressions and uses the pinned Node toolchain on runners.
Follow-ups
- Capture release checks now use a shared provider-safety path list and require recorded owner approval before higher-risk capture changes publish.
- Soak and automation state now lives under Freed automation storage with machine-readable verdicts.
- Freed Desktop provider sync soaks now avoid duplicate traffic and record when LinkedIn returns zero posts.
